Home Run Derby

Go Yard Home Run Derby!

On February 16th Lakeland Little League will hold its first ever home run derby fundraiser at Westosha Sports Complex. Using Westosha Sports Complex's state of the art Hit Trax Lakeland Little League will provide participants with the opportunity to go yard at three big league parks! Participants will receive a T-shirt for their participation as well as compete for prizes!

Participant Groupings: 
Participants will be grouped by their league age into to one of three divisions

AA
This division is for athletes ages 6 to 8 years of age. The fences will be set at 140 feet with a level 5 boost. 

Each athlete will get 12 outs. An out is a swing and a miss or a foul ball. 

The top 60% of the field will move on to round two of the derby. Round two will follow the same format however at the end of round two only two athletes will move onto round three for a head to head slug fest 

AAA
This division is for athletes ages 9 to 10 years of age. The fences will be set at 200 feet with a level 5 boost. 

Each athlete will get 12 outs. An out is a swing and a miss or a foul ball. 

The top 60% of the field will move on to round two of the derby. Round two will follow the same format however at the end of round two only two athletes will move onto round three for a head to head slug fest.


The Show
This division is for athletes ages 11 to 12 years of age.

The fences will be set at 240 feet with a level 5 boost. Each athlete will get 12 outs. An out is a swing and a miss or a foul ball. 

The top 60% of the field will move on to round two of the derby. Round two will follow the same format however at the end of round two only two athletes will move onto round three for a head to head slug fest.

Adult Participation.
Adults will be able to register on site for participation and will have 10 outs to hit as many home runs as they can. In the event of a tie the participant with the longest home run will be declared the winner. 

Prizes
There will be a first, second, and third place in each division. There will also be prized for the longest streak and the longest home run.

Majors

This division is designed to introduce the players to a more competitive brand of baseball and put to use the skills they have learned from the instructional leagues, such as the Minor and Instructional divisions. Major League players range from 10 to 12 years of age. The number of teams in the Majors fluctuates from year to year, depending on the number of new players who sign up, returning Major League players and the number of players moving up from the Minors.  Depending on the number of teams, there may be two divisions with playoffs. This division usually starts at the end of April/early May and play approximately 16 games, weather permitting. All games are played on Monday's and Thursday's. Weekends if necessary.There is an end-of-season interleague tournment played for the Major division, seeded from regular season standings.  This occurs at the last weekend of June or beginning of July.There is an All Star tournament that players can be selected to. These tournaments usually start around the first week of July.Criteria to play -1)All players must be at least 10 years of age and no older than 12 years of age.2)All 10 year-olds can try out (they can also elect to stay on the Minor AAA team they were on last year) prior to the season. There is no guarantee a player will be drafted into the Majors. If a player is not drafted, he will play in the Minors that season. All other players who have never played in the Major Division (11 & 12 years of age) must try-out prior to the season. Returning players do not have to try-out. 3)Once you are drafted to a team, you will stay with that team throughout your Major Division career. 4)To be considered for the All-Star team, besides meeting age and residency rules for regular season, each player must participate in 50% of the league games.                                                                                     

Minors
                                                                                                                                         The Minor AAA division is an upper tier instructional division with players ages ranging from 8 to 10 years of age.Scores and standings are kept. The number of teams in the minor AAA fluctuates from year to year, depending on the number of new players who sign up, number of players moving up from the Minor AA level and returning Minor AAA players. Depending on the number of teams, the AAA division may be divided into two divisions.During the course of the season each player should have the opportunity to play many positions in the field. The offensive team will use the continuous batting order for all players. The defensive team will field 10 players (pitcher, catcher, 4 infielders and 4 outfielders).Players pitch in this division, with Little League pitching rules including pitch count regulations.This division is differentiated from Majors, with no dropped third strike rule, for example. Stealing rules may be phased in as the season progresses.This division usually starts at the end of April and runs through the end of June. The division plays approximately 16 games (weather permitting). Games are played on Tuesday nights and Friday nights. Teams could play from 1- 3 games per week due to bye or makeup schedule demands. There are All Star teams that players can be selected to (9u and 10u). These tournaments are in July.Criteria to play1) All players must at least be 8 years old and no older then 10 years of age.2)8 yr olds may try out for the Minor AAA Division. If the 8year old is not drafted he will return to his existing Minor AA team. 3)All 9 yr olds coming from Minor AA or new to the league must tryout for Minor AAA.4) All star criteria requires 50% of league games played, in addition to all age and residency requirements

Lakeland Softball Spring 2020

Majors:

The Major Girl's Softball Division is a competitive division with player ages ranging from 9 to 12 years of age. All games are played on diamonds with dirt infields and 60' bases. Players coming into the Major Girl's Softball Division are required to go through tryouts and draft processes. Once you are drafted onto a team you will remain on that team until you are no longer eligible to play. The season generally starts the beginning of June and runs until the beginning of July.There is an All Star Tournament that players can be selected to. These tournaments usually begin in early July.Criteria to play - 1) A player must be within the ages of 9-12 years old. 2) 9 year olds and all new players to the league Division must participate in tryouts and enter the draft. 3) To be considered for the All-Star team, each player must participate in 50% of the league games.

Minors:

Minor Softball is a competitive, yet instructional level of play.  Scores and standings are kept.  While there may exist options for travel softball to girls in our community, this division offers competition, instruction, team work and valuable game experience.  The division also offers all-star selection and Little League post season tournaments.Minor League Softball is for participants 7-10 years old and can be operated with multiple divisions that are based on age and/or ability, depending on the number of registered players and age distribution, incoming players from Instructional division and outgoing players to Majors division. The number of total teams and divisions may vary from year to year.Minor softball will play (tentatively scheduled) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for a maximum of 16 games (weather permitting) with an interleague tournament at the end of the season.  The season starts at the end of April and finishes at the end of June/beginning of July.The league may implement local division rules.  Fields are Little League regulation for softball.Criteria to play:1) 7 year olds may try out, and if drafted, advance to Minors.  The players may also elect to stay in instructional or consider a season in AA baseball.  All 8 year olds (and above) new to the league or advancing from instructional may try out and enter the draft.  Non-tryout players age 8 and above may be randomly selected or placed on teams.  Once a player is placed on a team, they stay with that team for their Minor softball career. 2) To be considered for the regular season and All-Star team, each player must meet age and residency requirements.  All Stars must participate in 50% of the league games.  All Stars are selected in June.
